About
Why we built this, and why it’s free.
GrownUps is in development. Leave your email and we’ll tell you the day it’s ready — that’s the only email you’ll get.
My parents separated when I was a kid, so I know the shape of it from the inside — the two houses, the handovers, the tension in a room that has nothing to do with you. I’m not a separated parent myself. But I saw how much harder the logistics made an already hard time, and years later I saw something else: the apps meant to help were charging separated families the most at the very moment they had the least to give. That felt like the wrong way round — and like something worth fixing.
Separation is one of the hardest stretches a family goes through, and the logistics quietly make it worse — who has them Thursday, who paid for the shoes, what was actually agreed. GrownUps exists to lift that weight: to take the admin and the friction off the table so parents can put their energy into the children instead of the arguing. When the day-to-day is easier and the worry is smaller, calmer parents make for calmer kids — and the kids are the whole reason to bother.
When the facts are clear, the process is fairer — and the child is the one who benefits.
And when things do reach a mediator or a court, the record matters. Most of what parents keep is a jumble of screenshots and half-remembered dates. GrownUps keeps a clear, tamper-evident record instead — we don’t say “court-approved”, because no one can honestly promise that, but it is accurate, dated and complete — so decisions can rest on what actually happened rather than on who argues best. When the facts are clear, the process is fairer, and the child is the one who benefits.
So the honest part — how it survives, and why free isn’t a trick. GrownUps runs on ordinary infrastructure, and a family costs a few cents a month to serve. The money comes from the handful of parents who want a polished, formatted report for a hearing — a few dollars, generated on demand, only when it’s genuinely worth it to them. That’s enough to keep the platform running and, in time, to support me and my family — and that’s all it needs to do. There’s no venture fund to feed and no ambition to become a giant corporation; just a useful thing, priced the way I’d want to be treated: openly, fairly, and never holding a feature hostage for the next upgrade.
The short version
Built by the child of separated parents — for the parents in it now.
No mission statement and no origin myth — just one calm place for the schedule, the messages and the money, free for the things that matter.
Our commitments
The same commitments as the pricing page.
A page about why we’re free should end where the price does.
- We will never charge per parent. One price for a family, or no price at all.
- We will never put your own record behind a paywall. Export and deletion are free, forever.
- We will never charge for security or safety. Two-factor, the app lock and every safety feature are free.
- We will never make cancelling hard. If you ever subscribe, you cancel in the app, in one place, immediately.
- We will never use dark patterns. No countdown timers, no crossed-out fake prices, no pre-ticked boxes.
