Privacy policy

GrownUps is in development. Until the app launches, the part of this that is actually operating is the website — the waitlist form, the contact form and site analytics. The sections describing the app explain how it will handle your information once it is available.
1. Who we are and what this covers
This policy applies to the GrownUps website and, when it launches, the GrownUps mobile app and related services, operated by GrownUps (“we”, “us”). It covers the personal information we handle as the data controller. Where we link to another company’s service (an app store, a payment processor), their own privacy policy governs what they do with your data.
2. Information we collect
- Account information — your name, email address, and the settings you choose, when you create an account.
- Information about your children that you choose to add — names, dates of birth, schools, medical notes, and similar. This is entered by you, an adult, for your own family’s use.
- Messages and records you create in the app — messages to a co-parent, handover confirmations, schedule changes, and the documents you upload.
- Expenses you log and any approvals between parents.
- Device and usage information — the kind of device, app version, and how you use features, used to keep the service working and to improve it.
- Waitlist and contact details — if you join the waitlist we hold your email address (and optional country); if you contact us, we hold your message and the address you sent it from.
We do not track your location in the background, and we do not build advertising profiles of you.
3. How we use your information, and our lawful bases
We use your information to provide the service (perform our contract with you), to keep it secure and prevent abuse (our legitimate interest and legal obligations), to communicate with you about the service, and — only where you have opted in — for analytics and any optional marketing (your consent). Under the UK/EU GDPR our lawful bases are: contract for running your account; legitimate interests for security, service improvement and maintaining a shared record between co-parents; consent for analytics cookies and optional emails; and legal obligation where a law requires us to keep or disclose something.
4. Cookies and analytics
On the website we use a small number of essential and functional storage items, and — only if you accept the cookie banner — Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity. Nothing non-essential loads before you consent. The full list, with providers and how to change your choice, is on our cookies page.
5. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the service providers that help us run GrownUps, each under a contract that limits them to our instructions:
- Brevo — sends our waitlist and account emails and stores the waitlist contact list.
- Google — Google Analytics 4, if you consent to analytics.
- Microsoft — Microsoft Clarity usage analytics, if you consent.
- Twilio — delivers SMS reminders where you’ve asked for them.
- Our hosting provider — runs the servers your data sits on.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the safety or rights of a person, or as part of a business transfer — and in that last case we’d tell you. We never sell your personal information, and we never share it for anyone else’s advertising.
6. Children’s information
GrownUps is a tool for parents. You must be 18 or older to hold an account. Information about a child in the app is entered by a consenting parent or guardian for their own family’s use — the app is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly let a child under 13 create an account or collect their information directly. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we’ll remove it. We handle children’s information with the extra care that the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent rules expect.
7. International transfers
We’re based in, and use service providers in, more than one country, so your information may be processed outside where you live — including in the United States. Where we transfer personal data out of the UK or EEA, we rely on an adequacy decision where one exists, or on Standard Contractual Clauses, so your data keeps an equivalent level of protection.
8. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it — for the life of your account, and for a limited period afterwards where a shared record, a backup cycle, or a legal obligation requires it. When we no longer need it, we delete or anonymise it. See your data rights for exactly what is retained after deletion and why.
9. How we protect it
We encrypt your information in transit and at rest, and each family’s messages and files are encrypted so that our team cannot read them in the normal course of running the service. We use two-factor authentication, an in-app lock, access controls and monitoring to protect accounts. We are deliberately precise here: GrownUps is not “end-to-end” or “zero-knowledge” encrypted, because our servers must be able to decrypt content to deliver a message to the right parent, produce an export you ask for, and render a report. No system is perfectly secure, but we design to keep your information private and to limit what any one person can access. Our approach is explained further in our privacy commitment.
10. Your rights, and how to use them
You can access, export, correct and delete your information, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time. In the app, export and deletion are things you do yourself, free. For anything else, email privacy@grownups.app. The plain how-to, with timings, is on your data rights.
11. California and other US residents
If you’re a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA give you the right to know what we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising any right.
12. UK and EU residents
If you’re in the UK or EU, you have the GDPR rights described above, and you can lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Where we’re required to have an Article 27 representative, their details will be listed here before launch.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top, and for significant changes we’ll tell you directly. Continuing to use GrownUps after a change means the updated policy applies.
